Sam Asghari has initiated divorce proceedings from Britney Spears after 14 months of marriage. The 29-year-old actor and model began with all the legal paperwork last Wednesday, according to various US media. As reported by the TMZ portal, Asghari would have determined "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the breakup. In addition, he would ask the singer for marital compensation and payment for her legal expenses.
Rumors of a crisis in the couple have been circulating in the media for several months, but last June, sources close to the marriage assured that they were "better than ever." However, time has shown that this was not the case. What's more, just days before starting this divorce process, rumors arose of a big fight between the couple in which he accused the singer of having been unfaithful.
The singer has been seen in Los Angeles, the city where they both currently reside, without their wedding or engagement rings. At the moment, Sam Asghari has already left the family mansion.
Among other problems, the couple seemed not to agree to expand the family. The singer is the mother of two children, Sean Preston (17) and Jayden James (16), with whom she does not have a good relationship at the moment; but she was "eager to get started" on creating her little family. Something that Asghari did not fully share, that with all the situation of his now ex-wife with his older children and after the loss of the baby they suffered in 2022, he had his doubts about wanting to become a father in the future and preferred to wait until It was "the opportune moment".
It is expected to be a smooth divorce, as the couple signed a prenuptial contract without any fringe before getting married that keeps the singer's fortune, estimated at approximately 55 million euros, completely safe. As it was known at the time, said contract stipulates that Asghari could only obtain "one million for every two years of marriage" that they had been married, reaching a maximum of 10 million. The actor refused to have rights to the benefits of his wife's music, and his properties are in the name of a company.
According to a source close to the aforementioned portal, the actor is not willing to go to trial with his now ex-wife. The prenuptial contract will remain valid and it is most likely that they will reach an economic agreement in private.
The couple met in 2016, during the filming of the music video for the song Slumber Party, in which Asghari played the artist's romantic interest. In 2017, their relationship went public, and they've been together ever since. Four years later their engagement would arrive, to make way for the singer's dream wedding in Los Angeles in June 2022.
