Safety emerges as Bilbao's great deficit: only 50% consider it a safe city

Citizen security is the main concern of the people of Bilbao and also the only factor that tarnishes the good image that citizens have of the city. This has been confirmed by two sociological studies presented in the last month; the last of them this same Tuesday. The 'Social analysis of the City Council's management' shows, in general terms, very positive perceptions of the situation in the city, and the people of Bilbao give the town an 8.2 out of 10 when questioned about their "satisfaction with Bilbao as a place to live". At the opposite pole, only 50.4% agree that it is a safe city.

Four weeks ago, the Study of Perception of Security and Victimization made it possible to visualize the concern of the citizens of Bilbao in relation to citizen security. Crime emerged as the first concern among the 8,100 Bilbaoans surveyed, and 11.4% of those surveyed said they had been the victim of some crime in the last four months, almost double the number five years ago.

In the 'Social analysis of the City Council's management', the study presented this Tuesday, the perception of citizen security is the only area that is far from a generalized satisfaction of the people of Bilbao with their city.

84% of the people surveyed consider that the town continues to evolve and grow. Likewise, they value that it is clean (86.1%); with opportunities for leisure, culture and sports (85.4%), solidarity (80.3%), which promotes equality between men and women (78.8%); that generates employment and wealth (61.5%) and safe (50.4%).

Regarding the assessment of the municipal services they receive, they mention those referring to public transport (with a note of 8.06); Culture (7.59); Sport (7.47); Works and Services (7.10); Social services (6.79) and Citizen security (6).

The image of the City Council itself is rated 6.71, and the degree of satisfaction with the work carried out by its current managers receives a score of 6.31.

The sociological study also makes an estimate of the vote in the municipal elections, in such a way that if they were held at this time, and with an abstention of 40%, EAJ-PNV would increase to 45.5% (in 2019 it had 43.1 %); EH Bildu would obtain 15.4% (in 2019 15.1%); PSE-EE 15.4% (in the previous ones 16.1%); Elkarrekin/Podemos 9.3% (10.6%); PP 8.1% (9.3% in 2019) and VOX 2.7% (1.2% in 2019).

These data, transferred to the distribution of councillors, would leave the PNV on the verge of an absolute majority.
