Rodolfo Sancho affirms that he is leaving "calm" after visiting his son in prison in Thailand

Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho assured EFE this Saturday that he is leaving Thailand "calmly", where he has been almost a week to visit his son, Daniel Sancho, in provisional prison for the murder of Colombian Edwin Arrieta, due to the good treatment of The authorities.

"I am pleasantly surprised, I have been very calm (...). Daniel is very well cared for by tremendously kind people, which is what I have realized that people are in this country," Sancho explained, still from Bangkok, before leaving traveling to Spain this Saturday.

The 48-year-old actor arrived in Thailand last Sunday and visited his son in prison from Wednesday to Friday on the island of Samui, where Daniel Sancho has been serving provisional imprisonment since August 7.

The young man, 29 years old, was arrested on August 5, when he confessed to the murder and dismemberment of Edwin Arrieta, which took place three days earlier on the tourist island of Phangan, neighboring Samui (southern Thailand).

Rodolfo Sancho, who traveled to Thailand accompanied by the Spanish lawyer, Marcos García Montes, revealed that he has spent up to five hours with his son during daily visits organized by the Spanish embassy to the prison.

Visits from family and friends in Samui prison last about 15 minutes, but those from the embassy or lawyers, as in this case, can be extended unlimitedly, depending on the prison authorities.

Sancho also revealed that he had been able to spend time alone with his son and with enough privacy. "I have had a lot of flexibility in that sense and (I have not been) monitored at all. They have understood that they are intimate conversations between father and son, also with the lawyers, and they have been totally respectful," he explained.

The actor, who last Tuesday assured Efe that he has complete confidence in the authorities and Justice of Thailand, revealed that his son is well fed and cared for in the hospital area of the prison and that he can also practice Muay Thai with his companions ( Thai boxing), a sport of which he is a fan.

The young man will remain in this prison, considered friendly and not very crowded, at least until the trial begins in the Samui Court, which could be held from the end of the year.

The island's penitentiary center houses convicts with maximum sentences of 15 years, so, if the sentence as expected were more severe, they would have to be transferred to the Surat Thani prison (province in the south of Thailand) or to one of maximum security in Bangkok.

During this week, Sancho and the lawyer in Thailand have also had meetings with the Police and have visited the Samui court, "to request information and some documents about the case."

"I have had less dealings with the Police but at all times they have been very willing to help, they have been very helpful and I am also very calm in that sense. In the court, where we have gone to collect some papers, it has been a tremendously functional bureaucracy and quickly and without any problem", he explained.

In relation to the strategy for defense, Sancho explained that the idea is that "we can work as a team between Spain and Thailand to be able to help my son as much as possible."

Sancho and his lawyers are now waiting for the Police to conclude their report on the case and deliver it to the Prosecutor's Office, for which they have until the end of October, at which point the trial date could be set.

Sancho and Arrieta, who met last year through Instagram, had met in Phangan on August 2, the day on which the murder and dismemberment of the surgeon allegedly took place, whose remains have been found in various locations on the island. including the sea.
