Civil Protection has participated, this Tuesday, in building 112 in Reus (Tarragona), in a European-wide pilot plan that aims to develop resources to face meteorological emergencies aggravated by climate change.
The CLIMAAX project tries to specify what new situations may be experienced.
The deputy director of Civil Protection planning, Sergi Delgado, explained that the test consists of "the participating countries feeding software to create a toolbox with concrete measures to deal with emergencies."
This Tuesday's was the first session of the initiative and it began with the presentation of the episodes experienced during the last years in the regions of Tarragona, such as the storm in the Conca de Barberà and the fire in Santa Coloma de Queralt.
Afterwards, the participants visited the Operational Coordination Center of Catalonia (CECAT) and traveled to Espluga de Francolí to check the consequences of the downpour that affected this population.
The collaboration project between different European countries began at the end of 2022, has a planned duration of 4 years and is financed by the European Commission.
Other organizations from Germany, Belgium, Slovakia, Finland, Italy, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom participate in this project.
This Wednesday the project continues in Catalonia with a session in Barcelona where the Firefighters of the Generalitat, Rural Agents, Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, the Catalan Water Agency and the Office will also participate. of Climate Change
