Police seriously injure a woman in the Paris metro who made threats

The French police yesterday seriously injured a woman in the Paris metro because she was making threats and shouting “Allah is great!” and she said that she was going to explode a bomb that she was supposedly hiding under her full veil. The officers fired eight shots after the woman approached them and refused to take her hands out of her pockets.

The events occurred at the François Mitterrand Library station, in the east of the French capital. The presence of the person suspected of being a terrorist had been reported by two passengers in a convoy on the RER C suburban line that was circulating through the Marne Valley, on the outskirts of Paris. The police took up positions at the subway station and evicted her before attempting to subdue the woman. It was later found that she was not carrying weapons or explosives.

The police prefect, Laurent Nuñez, indicated that the woman was booked for a similar incident in July 2021. Then she threatened with a screwdriver, while shouting religious slogans. After her arrest, it was verified that she was suffering from psychiatric problems and she was hospitalized.

The judicial police opened an investigation for advocacy of terrorism, death threats and acts of intimidation against representatives of public authority. The General Inspection of the National Police (IGPN) also analyzes the facts, as required by law whenever agents use their regulatory weapons.

The episode took place in a general climate of maximum alert for attacks due to the contagion of the Gaza crisis. Warnings, in several languages, to remain vigilant and report any suspicion are frequent over the loudspeakers of the Paris metro.
