Pilar Rubio: “I don't read gossip or headlines, I prefer to read books”

It happens here and in the countries around us: there is no famous couple that is safe from periodic waves of rumors about alleged relationship crises. It is food for depending on which press: gossip becomes a thriving garden of questions whose protagonists often do not know what they are talking about when the microphone is planted in their faces. Pilar Rubio (Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid, 1978) is used to dealing with it. The presenter speaks to La Vanguardia on the occasion of the launch of her fifth swimwear collection for Selmark, a prestigious Galician brand with which she already lives in symbiosis.

Pilar intervenes in design and fabrics: "I also observe the needs that women have every year trying to innovate with a premise: top quality, versatility and comfort, it is swimwear with which you can go to a chill out." She herself is the image of the campaign, at 46 years old in March and with four children: “I stay well because of the happiness I have right now and because I train four times a week and eat in a balanced way. Consistency is the mother of everything.”

We see Pilar in El hormiguero, El challenging, Make Up Stars, Discovery Canary Islands and in June she will embark on a new project that she will record throughout the summer. Rest is at odds with her way of life. “If I can do it, it is because I embark on things that I like, I do programs that I am passionate about, in which I have a good time, I learn a lot and I am happy. It gives me energy. “If you took away my job, you would take away my life because I love it.”

Pilar and Sergio Ramos got married in 2019: although according to tradition the wedding usually takes place in the bride's land, the footballer is so linked to Seville that there was little doubt about which place would be chosen. The cathedral of Seville hosted a ceremony for 500 guests and Ramos made La Alegría, a 44-hectare estate that also houses his stud farm, winner of numerous awards at the annual International Horse Show (Sicab) available to the delegation, which is held in the Andalusian capital.

They started dating in the summer of 2012 and made official what everyone took for granted at the Ballon d'Or Gala the following January. That same 2013, in November, Pilar announced that she was expecting the first child of the then Real Madrid defender. Sergio Jr was born in May 2014 and a year later, the news of the second pregnancy would arrive, and a third and even a fourth: Marco, Alejandro and Máximo Adriano complete a brood of clear Greco-Latin inspiration.

The presenter and model does not completely rule out that poker could grow. Of course, if it arrives it is not because they are looking for a girl, he tells this newspaper: “With the pace we are going it is difficult to think of a fifth but I have a lot of experience with boys, I already know how they work and I think it would be easier. Now a girl would be like starting from scratch (laughs). Eh, I love watching them when they come home and seeing how they handle my children, it makes me very funny (laughs).” And that house is a deeply stable home. The family moved from Paris to Seville when his time at PSG ended and he signed for the Sánchez Pizjuán club. Before traveling to France and after returning, they have faced the same thing: rumors of crisis. The formula to not get bored of reading headlines and gossip of that nature is as easy as it is successful: ignore them: “I just don't read them. In fact, right now I have two books or was, because I just finished one, so the little moments that I have free, when I don't have to read scripts or study English, I start reading the books that I like, which I think is “time better spent.”

The most recent occasion in which she settled the umpteenth wave of rumors without intending to was by congratulating her husband's birthday on social media. For them it was normal but for some, the end of a storm that did not really exist. All in all, they don't take bad being subject to coated paper. “I am aware that we are public figures and everyone has the right to their opinion. Even to invent or say whatever they want. The important thing is what you live in your life. I think it's part of being a public figure. nothing happens, really. The important thing is to live your reality knowing that time is limited in this life and we cannot waste it on nonsense. It would be absurd to give someone the power to take time from your life. I decide my time, I choose who I give it to or what I use it for.”

The family's future is once again a mystery. Ramos ends his contract with the Seville club on June 30 and although president Del Nido Carrasco has stated that he is more than satisfied with his performance, the sports press indicates that the footballer's agents have tested the North American league. Will they continue in Seville or will they pack their bags to go abroad again? Pilar is an insurmountable wall. Like every spring when we ask her the damned question: USA, Japan, the Middle East... she doesn't get involved in choosing any destination as her favorite and she challenges the journalist with a tempting bet if she gets it right. Either she pretends very well or she really still doesn't know where her four children will be enrolled in September.
