The improvement in the management of vocational training by the Department of Education has allowed the majority of students who had requested a place to be awarded a place before starting the school year, which began yesterday in both the intermediate and secondary grade cycles. those of superior

Councilor Anna Simó explained this morning in a press conference, held at the Food Institute of Barcelona, located in Mercabarna, that the pre-registration process has been brought forward, it has focused on key dates and the last allocation of places has been made before the course starts.

In addition, students who have not entered any of their preferred options have been called to direct them to other training courses or other educational centers. An interactive map has been provided where you can see the vacant places in each educational center. Likewise, the offer of places as a whole has been expanded.

With all this, the situation compared to last year in which some 20,000 young people were waiting for a place to be awarded and it was not going to be assigned until the end of September, is very different.

The bulk of those enrolled started classes yesterday, both in the intermediate and higher grade cycles, there are only 1,600 students without an assigned place (759 in the middle grade and 879 in the higher grade).

The negative aspect is the vacancies. There are 14,603 unallocated places (7,375 intermediate level and 7,228 higher level) that the counselor hopes to fill in the coming weeks by rescuing young people who have dropped out of school. But, otherwise, it will mean the closure of groups.

The strong imbalance in demand is due, according to Simó, to the double pre-registration carried out by some young people who have finally chosen to enroll in high school and not in an intermediate degree or in university and not in a higher degree.

In total, of the 51,028 students who applied for a place in some intermediate degree cycle, 42,637 obtained one, which represents an increase of 3% compared to the previous year.

Among these are the 33,857 students who had priority when choosing a place. They are those from the 4th year of ESO, those who dropped out of high school last year and those who dropped out of school and re-enrolled in adult schools. Of this group, only 54 students were left without a place. They were all called, according to the counselor, and they were redirected to another cycle. There are only 16 pending. "Technically, it is a full assignment," she stressed, satisfied with the objective achieved.

In higher grade there are 7,228 first-year vacancies and 879 students have been left without assignment.

Simó highlighted that the total number of applications has been 44,800, of which 34,002 have obtained a place in a training cycle, which represents an increase of 5.32% compared to the previous year in which 28,684 places were assigned.
