My night with Barbie (and Ken)

The social buzz maintains that men, the "boys", according to the chatty waitresses, should see Barbie, it is supposed to reflect, reinvent themselves and overthrow the patriarchy.

I, the truth, did not have all of them with me, but when I saw the room full the day before yesterday Saturday in the empty Barcelona, I felt empathetic with the seventh art, even if it was in a front row seat. And now let's go to the spoiler, from brother-in-law to brother-in-law.

While I gorged myself with popcorn - I took it for granted that it would be dinner, but later, in the middle of the classic, I decided to have something light for dinner and I opened a Kraft terrine with fine herbs, which I finished so as not to get depressed days later when I saw its remains in the fridge – the film plunged me into a rosy atmosphere. Pink spurted out of the pores on the screen and I thought: where are you going with a red Lacoste, you look like a fan of the Spanish team!

The actors in the film are very good –thank goodness!– and from time to time they sing happily, among meritorious and showy choreographies. In an oversight, El Fary, detractor of the soft man, came to my mind, but I soon erased the bad thoughts.

Barbie has a message, I just doubt if I got it right and if the fact that she has a message exempts her from superficiality. I also thought that she should have bought a bottle of water to pair with the popcorn and not go thirsty.

The film runs through the proper channels, all very L.A. (Los Angeles, California, for the reader from Chinchón) and it is a hit, although I don't know if it will work well in Bangladesh, where they are very fond of going to the cinemas, with their striking posters on the facade, even if they are more Bollywood and the escapist genre. The only time I was there I couldn't go to the movies because the Ganges riverbeds had run wild – no offense to the mothers – and I had to write about the thousands of drowned men and women.

Boys of the 20th century, one leaves the cinema unscathed and in good spirits. And also, it is so reminiscent of Los boys with the girls!, from Los Bravos, a catchy and prehistoric theme (1967), whose lyrics anticipated this Barbie: “The boys have to be with the girls and they all have to sing together”.
