More than 43,000 toys with risk to children's health are removed from the market

The Civil Guard, in its fight against counterfeiting, smuggling and consumer safety, since October 2023, in towns of Monforte del Cid, Sax, Elche, Crevillente, San Vicente del Raspeig, Alicante, Ibi and Santa Pola has carried out around twenty inspections in establishments of commercial companies dedicated to imports. In 6 of them it has carried out the intervention of more than 43,000 toys for reasons of contraband and security, being proposed for sanction.

Since October 2023, the Fiscal and Border Patrol (PAFIF) of Santa Pola has carried out up to 20 inspections in warehouses in the towns of Monforte del Cid, Sax, Elche, Crevillente, San Vicente del Raspeig, Alicante, Ibi and Santa Pola. These inspections are carried out with the aim of locating items introduced irregularly into the territory of the European Union, in order to prevent both tax fraud or counterfeiting, and the adoption of the security measures that games and toys must have. for consumers and users.

As the different inspections were carried out, the agents located 6 warehouses in which up to 47,771 toys were intervened, mostly from China, Taiwan and the United States, the last being, in the town of Elche, in which the most of these, reaching 36,900 units.

Due to these events, the toys have been seized and made available to the competent authority and the companies have been reported to Organic Law 12/1995, of December 12, on the Repression of Smuggling, and Royal Decree 1205/2011 and 880. /1990 on safety in toys, reporting to the competent bodies.

Those responsible for administrative contraband and security violations may face closure of the establishment or suspension of the exercise of the activity, as well as fines of up to 1,000,000 euros.

The Civil Guard reminds that acquiring this type of objects can entail a risk to the health of children, since they can pose a risk of suffocation due to pieces of inadequate size, poorly assembled or can include chemical components that are harmful to the skin, and that counterfeits They do not have any type of quality control in their manufacturing.
