Manolo González: “I have the promotion set in my mind”

From bus driver to soccer coach. From amateur categories coach to a true Espanyol. Manolo González, born among the Galician mountains, is an extremely serious man, convinced of his strengths as a coach and that he will achieve the objective that the club of his life needs. A dream fulfilled, but also a responsibility that he assumes without fear, “confident and calm” to carry out the challenge. “Very convinced of the ability of the team and the players.”

On his first day, the new Perico coach demonstrated his feeling for this club, where he has coached the reserve team this season. “I want to ask for everyone's unity. It's not about me, I take myself out of the equation. I think it is necessary, people have a very strong feeling, we have to close the circle, clench our fists and give our all for the promotion. “We are capable of achieving this goal,” he said.

González has assured that he sees in the squad “a very great predisposition. I left the session very happy, and for the union at the staff level. They are going to leave their soul for the objective. We are doing it for the club and on an individual level as well.” Furthermore, regarding the little influence that he could have on the players, González assured that "the players trust if you go ahead of them, if the work makes sense and you are consistent and if what you do leads them to win." And he added that he has seen the locker room convinced of achieving promotion. “What I have seen and noticed is that yes, it cannot be any other way. That's what I've seen. This is what they have shown me,” he explained.

“I try to be clear, I try to give the player confidence. I want him to win first, but to try to play as well as possible, to look for the goal and the games,” he said about the style he hopes to imprint on his team. “I have the promotion set in mind. Going up to this club would be wonderful. I haven't thought about it. I thought we have to go up. “We are going to try with all our might,” he assured.

For his part, Fran Garagarza, sports director, explained that he dismissed Luis Miguel Ramis because he understood “that there is a situation that there is a better step. And a home coach who can take us to our goal. Time will tell if that decision is right or not,” he explained.

“There is a challenge, and it is difficult. But there is an energy. We are closer to exciting our fans. We are going to have to work a lot. And suffer and thus reach suffering,” she wished and assured that “the team is committed, very responsible. It's important because now is the time. Now we are closer to exciting,” she concluded.
