The Madrid City Council has raised the level of the municipal protocol for heat waves to red by forecasting temperatures above 40ºC for today, according to data provided by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Madrid raises the protocol for heat waves to red level

The Madrid City Council has raised the level of the municipal protocol for heat waves to red by forecasting temperatures above 40ºC for today, according to data provided by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The maximum temperatures will rise and, except in the mountains, they will widely exceed 36ºC and will even exceed 40 in a good part of the southern half of the Community.

The skies will remain clear with some interval of evolution clouds in the afternoon in the southeast and without discarding in height, and the wind will blow variable light, tending to the southwest in central hours and gusty in the mountains.

Already on Tuesday, temperatures will remain very high, although with some changes. The AEMET has specified that at this time it is not possible to establish with certainty the end of this episode of heat wave.

Faced with this situation, the City Council recommends that citizens not expose themselves to the sun in the central hours of the day, between 12 noon and 4 p.m., nor for children under three years of age and never for babies up to six months; Hydrate properly, drinking water frequently, and wear appropriate clothing that covers arms and legs, hats, and approved sunglasses.

Also apply sunscreens and use a sunscreen with a higher protection index during the first exposures and keep in mind that some medications cause adverse reactions when sunbathing.
