Madrid encourages citizens to know how to use defibrillators

The Community of Madrid defended this Tuesday that athletes, both professional and amateur, undergo regular medical examinations, and encouraged the population to be trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of defibrillators in order to reduce the number of sudden deaths.

This was explained by the Minister of Health of the Community of Madrid, Fátima Matute, during the inauguration of the Antonio López Farré Symposium, organized by the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and held at its headquarters. The meeting pays tribute to this doctor, one of the great figures of medicine, and has brought together numerous personalities from sports and health.

Matute also advocated for research into the causes of “a pathology that is so often silent” and recalled that the regional government is committed to cardioprotection, with initiatives such as the Heart Attack Code or the adult and pediatric Stroke Code.

“Vital steps towards networked, agile and multidisciplinary care that guarantees the best care for the most complex patients and translates into more lives saved and fewer effects and sequelae,” concluded the counselor.
