Junts claims its candidacy in the 9-J elections as the only one of Catalan obedience

Junts per Catalunya has stopped this Wednesday on the path of the Catalan pre-campaign to address the elections that will be held immediately after the Parliament elections on May 12, the European elections on June 9.

In Strasbourg (France), at the headquarters of the European Parliament, the party has presented its candidacy, which will be headed by the former minister and now MEP Toni Comín and will include the academic Neus Torbisco, who has collaborated in recent years with the Consell de the Republic, as number two. Number three is the until now advisor of the party in the European Parliament and director of the campaign, Aleix Sarri, one of the collaborators of former president Carles Puigdemont these years in Belgium and a member of the Junts leadership.

Puigdemont, still an MEP although he will not repeat in the next legislature given that he is a candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat in the Catalan elections of 12-M, has claimed that the Junts list will be the only one of Catalan obedience. Esquerra Republicana is presented at the European event, in which there is a single constituency and the total votes of all of Spain are counted instead of taking into account the provinces, with other political formations of the State such as EH Bildu, BNG or Més per Mallorca.

"This is the purely Catalan candidacy, (...) of strictly Catalan obedience," Puigdemont claimed. "It will be the only proposal completely independent of the interests of other parties outside Catalonia that Catalans will be able to vote for," added the former Catalan president, who does not repeat as in the European list to send the clear message that he is going "to for all" in the Catalan elections of May 12.

Also present at today's event were other members of the candidacy such as Mariona Illamola, Gorka Knörr, who was a delegate of the Government in Brussels, or the former minister Lluís Puig, who will close the list symbolically and is on the lists for the Parliament of the post-convergents in the top positions to repeat as deputy of the Catalan Chamber.

Comín, for his part, has wanted to trace a thread of continuity with the JxCat project in the European institutions in recent years and has assured that his action will be guided by the principles of "realism and courage." Likewise, he has proposed accompanying Puigdemont's work in Catalonia.

In the 2019 European elections, Junts won two seats with Puigdemont and Comín in the top positions. In the middle of the term, after the distribution of new MEPs due to Brexit, JxCat obtained a third seat in the European Parliament that until now is occupied by former councilor Clara Ponsatí, involved in another political party, Alhora, which is running in the parliamentary elections.
