Indignation in Sant Joan de les Abadesses for the high price of door-to-door pickup

It has been 20 years since Sant Joan de les Abadesses has implemented door-to-door service. It is the only town in Ripollès that has this system and is the one that recycles the most in the entire region. The price it costs has increased by 200,000 euros, especially due to the current price crisis, which has forced the City Council to raise the rate paid by residents. In total, they will go from paying 145 euros per year to 215 euros.

The mayor, Ramon Roqué, describes this amount as "unsustainable" and "unfair", and regrets that in Ripollès there are up to five different collection systems.

According to him, this greatly increases the cost per municipality. For this reason, he appeals to "regional solidarity" and asks the Consell to implement the premise of "he who pollutes the most, pays the most."

"It is unacceptable that the municipalities that are most committed to sustainability are penalized for their environmental initiatives," he emphasizes.

In this sense, it asks that municipalities that demonstrate "a real commitment" to reducing pollution and improving waste management be rewarded. "They shouldn't punish us," he adds.

Roqué defends the door-to-door system and believes that, in the long run, it will prove to be the best system. In fact, although the recycling data is already very good in the municipality, the mayor is confident that the town will improve it soon because he has obtained a subsidy of 90,000 euros from Next Generation funds to adapt collection areas with closed containers. and monitored, which will allow the data to be improved, since until now it was not being done well.
