In search of the heron in the Ter

The green spring on the Vora Ter road, in Torelló, has a protagonist: the gray heron, which we can see in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia in the river looking for food when it leaves the nest.

Gray herons breed in colonies, usually in tall trees near water. In this area, specifically, they take advantage of the River Ter.

Nests start out as a small platform of sticks, but can end up being a huge mass of accumulated material.

The Ter river rises in Ulldeter at 2,480 meters of altitude, at the foot of a glacial cirque in the Pyrenean region of Ripollès, very close to the town of Setcases.

The Camí Vora Ter starts in Torelló and stretches for 20 kilometers accompanying the river through small towns up to the town of Manlleu.

Camí Vora Ter arose in 2002 with the aim of skirting the course of the River Ter from its source in the eastern Pyrenees to its mouth in the Mediterranean.
