A group of about 30 African immigrants who last Monday were evicted by the Mossos d'Esquadra from a ship on Avenida Alfons XII in Badalona (North Barcelona) have camped in Pep Ventura square. The City Council has initiated the procedures to proceed with its eviction.
The Mossos d'Esquadra, coinciding with the arrival of Xavier García Albiol to the Badalona mayor's office, proceeded on Monday to evict a group of about 30 African immigrants who had been living in an industrial warehouse for years. Some came from the ship that caught fire last December in which four people died.
The eviction was carried out by court order and the factory residents actively resisted, for which the Mossos had to use forceful measures and arrest three individuals who caused damage to a parked vehicle. The building was demolished and now most of the evicted people who were left on the street have taken their belongings to Pep Ventura square.
Municipal sources have assured that the government indicates that the people who lived in the ship "are conflictive" and had been causing serious inconvenience to the neighbors for a long time. The priority of the new government is "to guarantee the well-being of the neighbors and not of the conflicting people."
