Illa relegates the possible budget agreement to after Christmas

From the “beginning of the beginning” we have gone to the “beginning”, plain. This is the progress that the negotiations on the budgets between the Government and the PSC have experienced, so that the chances of reaching an agreement with the Socialists before Christmas are practically nil.

This was expressed yesterday by the leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa, after his visit to the Fira de la Purísima de Sant Boi de Llobregat, where he pointed out that "there is still a long way to go and a lot of work to do" because "the priority is to have a good agreement, and this requires method, rigor and, perhaps, even discrete negotiation spaces”.

So far, the Socialists have held three sectoral meetings on budgets focused on issues related to health, renewable energy, and the last one, yesterday, on infrastructure, but three other areas remain to be discussed: social rights, industry and rationalization of the administration. , as agreed by the PSC with the Executive of Pere Aragonès.

Although Illa yesterday reaffirmed her total predisposition for the agreement, she criticized the president for his "erratic attitude" when facing this negotiation: "He is responsible for our late start," she accused. And he shied away from the rush that the Government now seems to have: "At first they said they did not want to know anything about the PSC and for a few weeks they have wanted the pact quickly and running." After remarking that it was the Catalan Executive who “took three weeks to offer the budgetary information that the Socialists needed to start the negotiations, Illa showed that at this rate an agreement will be impossible before the holidays.

Despite everything, the opposition leader does not exclude Junts from the possible pact, although he demanded that Aragonès "define himself in public" and "say what he wants to do." The post-convergents also held two sectoral meetings yesterday with the Government (on health and renewables), but in his case, Illa warned yesterday that "one monographic meeting is not enough, but that "two, three or even four meetings will be needed" By area.

And he celebrated the agreement of the Government with unions and employers so that the accounts include measures worth 1,440 million euros for social protection and boost employment and industry.
