How to rent luxury dresses like Infanta Sofía

Circular fashion is increasingly present in closets. In this sense, according to a study by GlobalData, the niche dedicated to the rental of clothing and accessories generated a value of 4.9 billion dollars in 2022 and is expected to grow 19% annually until 2026.

This more sustainable and responsible way of consuming fashion has recently even reached the dressing room of the Palacio de la Zarzuela. Last Tuesday, Infanta Sofía opted for a luxury design purchased on the Borow rental platform to attend the swearing-in of the Constitution of her sister, Princess Leonor.

A design with a cape, mini and floral print signed by Erdem that is available on this circular fashion website for one-sixth of its retail price in the original store.

This rental store specializes in party dresses, both for day and night events, and in its catalog it has a wide variety of designs for all tastes and budgets. Sofia's, for example, can be worn for a daytime wedding or even a baptism and its rental costs 268 euros for four days.

Each platform has its format. Some, like Pantala, even allow you to buy the pieces after renting them. Others, like Borow, have two separate collections, one for rent and one for purchase.

To rent a piece you must first select size and color - if it has several options - and then choose how long you will need it. Rental periods range from at least four days to one month and the price, logically, varies depending on the time. In addition to the price of the garment, all rentals include a shipping cost of 8 euros.

Pieces can be reserved up to four months in advance and your rental can be canceled free of charge up to 15 days before the reservation date. Once the rental period is over, a courier will pick up the garment, which must be previously stored in the same box or suitcase in which it arrived.

In addition, insurance for small accidents with buttons, zippers or stains is included in the rental price and, for full coverage - which covers more complex repairs, such as those caused by a burn or a tear - the client can pay 10 euros of further. However, the loss or theft of the piece does not fall under any of the platform's insurance policies and is penalized with a payment of up to double the actual sale price of the dress.
