He dies just four months after winning 1.2 million euros in the Christmas lottery

Jesús Martínez, one of the biggest winners of Gordo de Navidad, has died at the age of 88, as reported by La Nueva España. Resident of Asturias, he died just four months after being awarded three tenths of the number 05,490, equivalent to 1.2 million euros.

Born in Moreda and resident in Aller, "He kept up the illusion and regularly played the lottery," his closest friends have highlighted to the newspaper. The man was a miner and also worked as a porter of packages and suitcases at the railway station. In addition to being awarded the lottery, the man received the gold badge from the Aller City Council for his interest and dedication to the needs of the municipality.

Some of his neighbors point out that he always defended that "the person who lacked illusion was dead" and "he kept it until the end."

Jesús Martínez acquired three tenths of number 05490 in the administration of "Los Collaínos". This establishment sold 41 series (410 tenths) worth 164 million euros. A large part of the prize was sold at the Atletismo de Mieres club, which resold them in the form of 5-euro shares, making the money widely distributed among those who collaborated to help said sports entity by purchasing them. Only a few neighbors bought the tenths at the window and they took a good pinch, among them, Jesús Martínez.

What is striking is that of the three tenths, the man only deposited two in the bank. "He never revealed what he did with the third," explained his acquaintances. Some speculate that he gave it away.
