Greenlandia Tech, a startup for cold transportation

Find unsolved market needs and turn them into business opportunities. This is one of the reasons for the existence of company factories and the reason that led Mutter Ventures to found the startup Greenlandia Tech in 2018. “There was no container or portable refrigerator designed to comply with the existing regulations regarding transport of cold biological samples (blood, urine...), and Greenlandia Tech began to develop a solution from scratch," explains Marc Real, who serves as executive director of the emerging company.

If the startup borrows the name of one of the coldest countries in the world, the solution devised by the company takes the name of its capital, Nuuk. “It began to be marketed a year ago, our main clients being hospitals, clinics and laboratories, but also cosmetics or caviar brands,” says Real. That is, “value products that can be spoiled if the cold chain is broken,” adds the executive director.

The Nuuk smart refrigerator, which has involved a development investment of 1.8 million euros, has GPS technology to track the sample's journey in real time and a cloud platform (SaaS) that allows optimizing the operational and store all information. Greenland Tech has the patent registered in the US, the UK, Mexico, Spain, Qatar and Taiwan, and the dual software and hardware solution is already sold through distributors in more than 24 countries. Thanks to these sales, the company plans to end 2023 with a turnover of 1.2 million euros.

To strengthen its national presence and grow internationally, the Barcelona startup has opened a financing round with the online investment platform Capital Cell to raise one million euros. Part of the money will also be used to develop a second solution, which they have named Arsuk, in honor of another town in Greenland.
