"Go back to your country", the comment of a Vox councilor to the Secretary of Anti-Racism of Podemos

The Councilor for Entrepreneurship and Agriculture of Vox in the Valencia City Council, Cecilia Herrero, has responded to the Secretary of Anti-Racism of Podemos, Serigne Mbaye, with a "You need to go to your country." The former Podemos deputy in the Madrid Assembly denounced on social media several fragments of a video by Desokupa leader Daniel Esteve that told him that "you had to be hunting antelope on your land."

Mbaye wondered if something was missing from these comments to which the person in charge of the Valencian council responded with the invitation for him to go to his country.

Mbaye was the spokesperson for the Madrid Manteros Union and activists for the rights of migrants, and signed for the Unidas Podemos candidacy for the elections to the Community of Madrid led by Pablo Iglesias in 2021.

After hearing the response from the Vox councilor on social media, the PSPV councilor in the Valencia City Council, Borja Sanjuán, has demanded that the mayor, María José Catalá (PP), immediately fire her for her racist messages. “We do not know what Mrs. Catalá is waiting for to immediately dismiss the councilor of her government Cecilia Herrero who has told a former deputy of the Madrid Assembly to return to his country solely for the fact of being a black person” Sanjuán has asked himself.

For the socialist councilor it is “absolutely unacceptable” that the councilor of the Valencia City Council can continue to represent our city. “It is a shame and Catalá should stop it imminently, without waiting a second,” he added.

Meanwhile, Compromís councilor Lucia Beamud has condemned this episode of "pure racism" and has criticized that this is "the government we have in the Valencia City Council. "We denounce these racist attitudes and demand that Valencia will always be an open city ", indicated Beamud.

Also from Compromís, councilor Pere Fuset has criticized that a councilor of the municipal executive "shows off her xenophobia." "Zero surprise, but even less to get used to her hate speech," he indicated.
