Girona falls into Getafe's trap

Girona is losing steam, for which the last strokes before reaching the shore are taking forever and could even end up suffering to secure a Champions League place after a dream season. Míchel's team lost their fourth consecutive away defeat at the Coliseum, letting Real Madrid escape (definitively?) and putting second place at risk while waiting for what Barça does at the Metropolitano. It wasn't enough for Girona with Savinho, too alone, and he was caught in the net of a Getafe that still hasn't fooled anyone.

The match was born already askew for the people from Girona, who could not find a way to take the reins against an opponent who challenged them for the ball from the beginning without, apparently, showing too much ambition with it although with their ideas as clear as ever. It was an author's duel at the Coliseum, with Bordalás and Míchel as exponents, as similar as a Fellini film and another by Michael Bay.

Not much was happening on the green, a sign that the local stamp was imposed. A grab from Alderete to Portu could have changed everything, but the referee, with a lot of personality, ignored the VAR and did not send off the blue defender. After half an hour of play, which was certainly tedious, the fireworks began. Getafe took the lead, taking advantage of a good drive from Luis Milla to the front and an even better pass from Ilaix Moriba to Santiago, who beat Gazzaniga with a powerful cross shot.

The Valencia youth squad was there in all of them, the beautiful and the ugly, pure Bordalás DNA, trying to get the second yellow card from Savinho in an action without the ball and getting the card for Portu after also taunting him without the ball. Long is the inheritance of Damián Suárez south of Madrid.

The Getafense goal spurred Girona, who then began to be able to look in the mirror and recognize themselves better. Through the ball and the speed of Savinho, the best visitor of the afternoon, the tie flew over the Coliseum. The first attempt was signed by Portu, but his shot had too many legs to overcome. And the last two before the break came with the Ukrainian flavor of Dovbyk, both very clear. First he shot too cross after a great assist from Portu and then, this time with his right foot, he failed to find the goal after a wonderful cross from Savinho.

There were more arrivals in the second half although the game was slowing down due to the work and grace of a Getafe that has learned its roadmap well, especially with an advantage on the scoreboard. Savinho was a nightmare for the Azulones but he couldn't find partners. Not even a denied Dovbyk -seven days without scoring already-, who failed to get his header right when the goal seemed the only way out. Just before, Gazzaniga had given life to Girona with a save against Jaime Mata.

There was no football in the last minutes and the defeat of Míchel's team was consummated, forced to recover and improve their performance in the final stretch of the championship.
