Flowers sprout in the desert of the Sau swamp

Much drought in the Sau reservoir, which has become a veritable desert from which, however, spring flowers have sprouted, as can be seen in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

The poppy is considered a weed, although it seems to have the gift of giving color to any landscape, capable of growing even in spaces such as the current arid Sau reservoir, where it adds a touch of red.

Poppy has traditionally been associated with agriculture since ancient times. And it is that its life cycle adapts to most cereal crops. So much so that they flower and seed before the harvest of the crops.

Church, cemetery, houses on both sides of the reservoir, the old mill, streets can be guessed... The drought makes it possible to rediscover the corners of the old town of Sant Romà de Sau, which was engulfed by the waters of the reservoir that is now dry.

The reservoir, inaugurated in 1962, covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the remains of which, especially the bell tower of the Romanesque church, are visible when the dammed water level is low.

This reservoir is part of a system of three swamps (along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral) that unites the counties of Osona, in the province of Barcelona, and La Selva, in the province of Girona.
