Firefighters rescue 140 Dutchmen surprised by a storm in La Garrotxa

This afternoon, the Generalitat Fire Brigade rescued a group of 140 Dutch hikers who were surprised by a strong storm in the Girona region of La Garrotxa, where episodes of purple weather are expected this Sunday.

Sources from the fire department have informed EFE that, around three in the afternoon, they have been alerted that 120 young people and 20 teachers and monitors had been surprised in the municipality of Montagut i Oix by a strong storm when they were following the route between the hermitage of Sant Eudald de Jou and the Pont de Llierca.

Firefighters have gone to the area with seven land units and a helicopter, a device with which groups have been evacuated to the campsite where they spend the night. All the hikers are in good condition, according to the same sources, although one of them had mild hypothermia and another had a foot injury.

During this Sunday, the Generalitat Fire Brigade also evacuated a person who had been injured in the leg on the Riells i Viabrea mountain; an injured climber, with bruised ribs and back, in Àger; and another hiker who could not continue in Rubió.
