Enrique Lacalle, new president of the Barcelona Equestrian Circle

The Equestrian Circle has a new president. The businessman Enrique Lacalle (Barcelona, 1950) succeeds Antonio Delgado at the head of the business organization. Lacalle has served as vice president since 2019 and now assumes the presidency with the broad support of the club's almost 2,200 members in an electoral process that has included his only candidacy.

The new board of directors of the Círculo Ecuestre will have, under the presidency of Lacalle, four vice presidents. Juan Ignacio Marull will be responsible for the economics area; Antonio Gámiz, for his part, will lead the social area; Luis Conde will be the vice president of the institutional area; and, finally, Eva Moll will have responsibilities for culture.

The board doubles the number of women compared to the previous mandate, going from three to six. A secretary, a vice-secretary, a treasurer and 23 members will also be present in the organization's renewed governing body, among whom are prominent names from the economic and business sector of Barcelona. The general director of the club will continue to be David Galán.

There are six priorities that the new president of the Equestrian Circle has set for this new stage. Firstly, reinforce activities among club members, promoting meetings and conferences with the most relevant figures in the country. The emblematic meeting points of the Círculo Ecuestre, the Barcelona Capital Forum and the Madrid-Barcelona Crossed Agendas Forum will continue at full capacity. Lacalle also aims to modernize and rejuvenate the club by increasing the presence of women and young people in the governing bodies. Strengthening the weight of the entity in the economic and business sphere with the creation of a new business advisory council is another of its objectives. It will be called the Ecuestre Business Circle and will bring together those partners with greater responsibility at the head of Spanish companies.

The new president will also create the advisory council of the Círculo Ecuestre in Madrid, to expand its state presence. Its president will be the businessman Joaquín Güell. Consolidating the organization as a dynamic element of the culture and art of Barcelona, mainly through the By Invitation fair, is another of the purposes of the new board of directors. And finally, the business club will undertake remodeling works at its facilities on Balmes Street to modernize them and make them more accessible.

“It is an honor and a privilege to preside over a century-old institution, so deeply rooted in the economic, political and cultural fabric of Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain as a whole. The objective that we set for ourselves from the new board is to ensure that the Círculo Ecuestre continues to be the reference club and positions itself as a meeting and debate point for civil society at the service of Barcelona,” highlighted the new president, Enrique Lacalle.
