Don't miss Barcelona shrouded in fog

Barcelona woke up this Saturday morning with some low clouds that have left spectacular images of the Olympic ring on Montjuïc, the panoramic view of the city and the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains that surround the Catalan capital.

We can appreciate it in this series of snapshots in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia captured from the Observatori Fabra.

The Fabra is a privileged observation point of the city of Barcelona. It is located on a buttress of the Tibidabo mountain, facing south, 415 meters above sea level.

From this astronomical observatory you can not only study asteroids, comets and the stars that cross the sky, but you can also see all the meteorological phenomena that occur in Barcelona.

In this case we not only observe the low mists, but we can also appreciate the solar pillar. A light pillar is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source.

The effect is created by the reflection of light from small ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere or comprise high-altitude clouds (for example, cirrostratus or cirrus clouds).

If the light is coming from the sun (usually when it is near or even below the horizon), the phenomenon is called a solar pillar.
