Djokovic comes from Musetti to Monte Carlo

The world number one, the Serbian Novak Djokovic, fulfilled his revenge against the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, to whom he lost last year, and reached the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1,000 where he will face the Australian Alex de Miñaur, eleventh seed.

The Balkan, who won 7-5 and 6-3 in two hours, overcame a bad start to the match and then righted an uphill first set. In the second, his dominance was more evident, he broke from the start and kept his distance with the transalpine player who did not take advantage of the opportunities he had to get back into the duel.

The Balkan's second victory on clay in 2024 returns him, five years later, to the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1,000 that he won in 2013 and 2015 but in which he has not managed to shine in recent years.

Djokovic faces his fourth tournament of the season in Monte Carlo after the United Cup, the Australian Open and the Masters 1,000 in Indian Wells. He goes through 2024 without any title.

The winner of twenty-four Grand Slams will play in the quarterfinals with the Australian Alex de Miñaur who got rid of his compatriot Alexei Popyrin 6-4 and 6-3.
