The earthy-colored fields are not without their symbolism, since the art of agriculture is not at odds with the art of painting. Not in vain, since Prehistory, ocher (also the name for the color of earthy minerals) has been traditionally used as a pigment for artistic painting and body painting.
Soils rich in iron oxide and hydroxide can cover large areas. Groundwater rich in iron can also lead to the formation of ocher when filtering into wetlands, lakes or other river courses.
Ocher is mainly associated with yellow (in fact, etymologically it is already related to this color), an earthy mineral consisting of hydrated iron oxide, which is frequently mixed with clay. But it is not only yellowish, but also orange or reddish.
