Defense will eliminate the minimum height to access the Armed Forces

The Ministry of Defense has initiated the procedures to modify the order that regulates the requirements to access the Armed Forces and, in general, will eliminate the height limits, although they will continue to be required for destinations in certain units.

As reported this Thursday in a statement by the Ministry directed by Margarita Robles, this modification is expected to be applicable in the next calls and selective processes of 2023. These limits for access to the scale of officers of the Guard corps will also be eliminated Civil.

The change requires reforming the 2019 order that approved the medical list of exclusions required for admission to military training centers. That order sets height limits at 155 centimeters for women and 160 for men. Neither can access anyone who exceeds 203 centimeters.

Defense specifies that there will be no limit to access the bodies and scales of the Armed Forces, but that they will be maintained, for men and women, to occupy posts in units in which height "constitutes an essential and determining requirement." The objective pursued, he emphasizes, is "to continue advancing in equal opportunities and facilitate the attraction and recruitment of talent in the Armed Forces."

Interior already eliminated at the end of last year the suppression of the minimum height requirement to access the National Police, set until now at 1.65 meters for men and 1.60 for women. One of the objectives is to attract women to the military and police forces.
