Càritas asks Banyoles for a place where homeless people can shower

Càritas del Pla de l'Estany demands from the Banyoles City Council a solution so that homeless people who live in the city can shower. The social entity remembers that other locations offer this service in municipal pavilions.

Since Càritas stopped providing this service in its premises on the Wall in 2020, first due to Covid and later due to the transfer of the entity to the parish of Sant Pere due to the works that must be carried out in that sector, the group of people homeless people living in the city have been left without a space for their hygiene.

The entity points out that the municipality has four municipal pavilions that could accommodate these people for a few hours or a few days a week so that they could shower or wash clothes. The NGO extends this demand to people who do not have water at home.

Càritas explains that this option has been proposed to the Banyoles City Council but has been rejected, "without giving any other alternative." In this sense he demands a solution for this group. "Not being able to wash further aggravates their living conditions and affects not only their health, but their dignity," they say from Càritas Pla de l'Estany.
