The acting mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, said goodbye today to the plenary session of the City Council in the last session of the 2019-2022 mandate, convinced that in the next few days she will cease to be mayor- "Surely I will not preside over the plenary session again next four years”, Colau stated at the farewell plenary session for the 21 councilors who are leaving the City Council of the Catalan capital.
“I have been president for eight years and the mayor and the government that comes out next Saturday or the next few months remain to be seen. In any case, I am sure that I will not preside over the plenary session again", said the mayoress of Barcelona in what is known as the "teardrop plenary session".
The plenary session was held three days before the investiture (if it is not delayed until July 7 as a result of Vox filing an appeal).
Colau stated that for her it has been "an honor to have been the first woman mayor" of Barcelona for eight years and has thanked the other councilors for their dedication to the city. "Empathy, respect and affection have prevailed most of the time," she highlighted.
From BComú, the deputy mayor for Social Rights, Laura Pérez, and the councilor for Emergencia Climática, Eloi Badia, and Jordi Rabassa (councillor for Memoria Democrática) and Pau González (councillor for Education) have left BComú.
On behalf of the PSC, Montserrat Ballarín (Councillor for Markets, Hacienda and Internal Regime), Joan Ramon Riera (Councillor for Children, Youth, Elderly Persons and Persons with Disabilities), Xavier Marcé (Councillor for Tourism) and Nuria Carmona, who entered for relieve former deputy mayor Jaume Collboni.
From Junts, Ferran Mascarell has said goodbye; from ERC, Gemma Sendra, Max Zañartu, Rosa Suriñach and Jordi Fexas; and it was also the last plenary session for the two councilors of the PP, Óscar Ramírez, who has left the party, and Inma Delgado.
In addition to the farewell of the councilors who will not continue, the plenary has closed the stage of the municipal groups of Ciudadanos and Valents in the Barcelona City Council, Paco Sierra, Julia Barea and Noemí Martín, as well as Eva Parera, have said goodbye to the orange party and Oscar Benítez (Valents) and non-affiliated councilor Marilén Barceló.
