The president of Junts per Catalunya, Laura Borràs, shortly after learning of the sentence of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia that sentenced her to four years and six months in prison and 13 months of disqualification for the crimes of documentary falsification and prevarication, has proclaimed this Thursday his innocence at the gates of Parliament, and has assured that "he does not resign" despite the decision of the judges, which, according to his opinion, "seeks to destroy the independence movement."
The leader, before a few dozen people who have gathered at the gates of the Catalan Chamber –fewer than those who attended a few months ago when she was suspended as president–, and without the presence of the other pro-independence groups, has stressed that she will seek her acquittal in other judicial instances, in addition to reiterating that he has not had a fair trial.
"I chose the most complicated path, an agreement with the truth, which has costs, and I have not avoided conviction. It gives me the necessary strength to feel free even if they have sentenced me," Borràs concluded, referring to the other two convicted, who confessed the facts and reached an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office to reduce their sentences.
The leader of JxCat has been supported by the Junts parliamentary group, the general secretary of the formation, Jordi Turull, and the former president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, who has demanded that no one occupy the seat of the leader in Parliament and that the presidency of the Chamber in an attention to the media.
According to Borràs, his trial "has been a perverted process from the beginning" and "a trial in which my right to a fair trial has not been respected."
For this reason, in the appearance, in which there have been no questions, he has addressed "all those" who "would like him away from politics and could not even hide that they were waiting for the TSJC to do the job for them" and he has "invited" to say "if they are willing to use arguments and repression in a partisan way." She is an allusion to the rest of the political forces, also the pro-independence ones, and to the sectors of her party who believe that she should resign as president of the formation.
