Bathing is authorized again on all the Alicante beaches closed on Friday due to contamination

The Alicante City Council and the General Directorate for Water of the Ministry of the Environment have reopened the beaches of Urbanova and San Gabriel to the bathroom as normal after a "short" and "isolated" episode of contamination by enterococci that led to their closure during the last Friday.

The results of the samplings carried out on Friday on the beaches of El Saladar de Urbanova and San Gabriel in the southern access to the city are "compliant" and "normal", for which reason they have been reopened to the bathroom, as indicated by the consistory in a statement.

These two beaches, together with the Urbanova canine, were closed last Friday morning when levels of enterococci were detected in their waters above normal within the usual controls established in the Bathing Water Quality Control Program of the Valencian Generalitat.

In the first checks carried out by the City Council to locate the origin of the presence of this bacterium in the water, possible discharges from the outfall and the treatment plant in the San Gabriel area have been ruled out, as well as leaks from the network controlled by Aguas de Alicante. .

The Xàbia City Council has also reported that this Saturday the Arenal beach has been reopened, which had been closed this Friday to the bathroom after detecting "high levels of contamination".

According to the consistory, the analyzes carried out by the General Directorate of Water "are correct", as are those commissioned by the City Council as part of the plan of measures agreed upon a week ago after another episode of contamination.

Throughout this week, five daily analyzes have been carried out and monitoring with cameras of the stormwater and sewage network in the area. Some tasks that have made it possible to narrow down some lines of work and that this Friday were intensified to solve these incidents as soon as possible, according to the city council.

The reopening of the Guardamar beaches closed on Thursday was carried out on the same Friday afternoon, once the results of the tests carried out the previous day were known.
