The film No Reservations (2007) is a remake of a turn-of-the-century German comedy-drama. The tape is so predictable and weak that neither the leading role of Catherine Zeta-Jones, nor the theme (haute cuisine), manage to lift it.

One of the few salvageable things in the film is a dialogue in which Zeta-Jones asks his love interest if he knows the three secrets of French gastronomy: “butter, butter and butter”, he replies.

I leave the quality of that scene and the veracity of the statement to the experts, but I can say that this is the secret of my mashed potatoes. In addition to good cooking (soft, but not undone), and just the right amount of milk and nutmeg.
