Barcelona taxi starts a wave of protests at the airport against illegal drivers

The taxi sector begins a four-day wave of protests at Barcelona Airport to protest the presence of illegal taxi drivers on the aerodrome premises. The mobilizations have been called by Élite Taxi and Anget due to Aena's "inaction" in the presence of unlicensed drivers who attract customers in the arrivals area of the Airport.

The entity's spokesman, Tito Álvarez, has reproached the infrastructure director, Sonia Corrochano, for her lack of willingness to meet with the sector and seek measures to eliminate the presence of illegal taxis.

The organization has maintained the mobilizations despite the meeting that they finally held on Friday, April 14, with the Minister of the Interior of the Generalitat, Joan Ignasi Elena, after which he considered the demands that he addressed to the Government and the Mossos d'Esquadra fulfilled. .

The Generalitat explained to the entity that from August more troops from the Airport Mossos will be assigned, which will facilitate the control of illegal taxi drivers.

This Monday, April 17, it is expected that from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. there will be an “invasion of taxi drivers” in the arrivals area of Terminal 1 with a service stoppage, as Álvarez explained last week.

For Tuesday, April 18, they have scheduled to use the taxi horn for half an hour every two hours in the taxi area. A slow march is scheduled for Wednesday between the two terminals of the infrastructure that "will surely involve blocking the entrances and exits of the Airport" by road.

On Thursday a "second invasion" will take place in the T1 lobby, where an assembly will be held to decide new mobilizations, which may include slow marches through Barcelona.

The association's demand will involve having an information standard in the T1 lobby, removing the pivots from the access ramp to the taxi area, opening a second ramp down and the use of stickers on the ground to indicate the access to taxis.

In addition, they claim to restructure the reservation area in the T1 parking area, more private security presence and warn over the public address system that the official taxi is "yellow and black".

In T2, they propose a two-month pilot test so that TT2-C is free to access “like the airlift”. In addition, they demand from the Institut Metropolità del Taxi (Imet) more presence of inspectors to control the taxis that they capture between exits A and B of T2, as well as Uber vehicles without the badge.
