Ayuso will give a "new life" to Zendal for the rehabilitation of patients with brain damage

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced this Thursday that the Isabel Zendal Enfermera Hospital will house a large "pioneer" functional neurorehabilitation center, which will be operational at the end of 2025 and will be "a European reference" and "one of the best in the world" in caring for patients of all ages with brain and spinal cord damage and in caring for patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and other diseases.

Ayuso explained that in the new resource, patients who have suffered spinal or brain injuries will be able to receive classic treatments, as well as "state-of-the-art" treatments, such as augmented virtual reality in glasses or screens, immersive virtual reality rooms, exoskeletons and other means for robotic rehabilitation.

In this "new life" of Zendal, according to the president, children who have suffered a traumatic brain injury with serious consequences, adults with spinal injuries after traffic actions and patients with brain injuries that reduce their physical and intellectual capacity will be treated.

The hospital will have a portfolio of services that will include an intensive neurorehabilitation unit, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychologists and neurocognitive rehabilitation, and also a pediatric neurorehabilitation unit.

We will work with the patient and their families both in rehabilitation and in information, advice and support, and in the case of children and adolescents, the treatment will be compatible with schooling.

The quality of life of patients who have suffered spinal and brain injuries is "a priority" for the regional government, stated the Madrid president, who has advanced the center will be 100% operational by the end of 2025 and will allow progress in the study of these pathologies and their rehabilitation methods through research and teaching.
