Ayuso transfers to 13-M the recognitions of the Community of Madrid for Women's Day

The Community of Madrid will deliver its traditional recognitions for Women's Day in 2023 although, on this occasion, Isabel Díaz Ayuso has delayed the institutional act until next Monday, March 13. Letting a whole weekend go by between today's protest acts and her own ceremony.

Dr. Manuela Camino, the scientist Elena García, the athlete Carmen Giménez or the journalist Pepa Gea, among others, will be honored under the slogan Women who lead the future, with which the Madrid president wants to promote equality, entrepreneurship and conciliation .

The Community of Madrid distinguishes in this edition, in the Science category, the work of the biologist María Soledad Soengas, president of the Spanish Association for Cancer Research (Aseica) and a world reference in skin cancer research more common and lethal, melanoma.

In the field of Sports, it rewards the athlete Carmen Giménez, who in 2010 was a victim of violence against women and lost the mobility of her legs. Giménez is the Spanish champion in several categories and the national record of 5,000 meters, in addition to presiding over Run for You, an inclusive athletics foundation of the Community of Madrid.

Dr. Manuela Camino, head of the Children's Cardiac Transplant Unit of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital, will receive the Recognition in the Health category as promoter and leader of a heart transplant project in children with incompatible blood groups.

In the Media category, the extensive journalistic career of Pepa Gea is awarded, who directs and presents the radio program 'Más de Uno Madrid', on Onda Cero, where it has been awarded Silver Antenna 2022 by the Association of Radio and Television Professionals.

The economist Alejandra Kindelán, who paved the way for other women in the senior management of Spanish banks during her time at Banco Santander, will also receive an award in the Economy section.

In the Technology category, the award was given to Elena García, senior scientist at the Center for Automation and Robotics shared by the CSIC and the Polytechnic University. She leads the group that has developed the world's first bionic exoskeleton for children with spinal muscular atrophy, a degenerative disease that affects nearly 2,000 children in Spain.

In the Education category, Luz Rello, a graduate in Linguistics, a PhD in Computer Science and founder of Change Dyslexia, works to reduce school dropout rates due to dyslexia. She was the first Spaniard to receive the European Young Researchers award for her advances in research to apply emerging technologies to this disorder.
