Aragonès demands that Junts "make the most of" the scenario after the elections

The purpose of President Pere Aragonès after the general elections on July 23, in which the independence movement holds the key to Spanish governance, is to "reinforce" the negotiation spaces between Catalonia and Spain and "advance in the resolution of the political conflict". . "End the repression and the fiscal and infrastructure deficit", the head of the Catalan Executive has put on the table this Tuesday as priorities. Although, he has added that the end of the journey is a vote in a referendum, for which he has reiterated his proposal to work on a clarity agreement.

In the balance press conference for the political course that is now ending, Aragonès has also called for making the most of the scenarios that are opening up in the new legislature. This is a message addressed, above all, to Junts per Catalunya, with whom his formation, Esquerra Republicana, is now trying to articulate a common front to negotiate in Madrid together with the eventual investiture of Pedro Sánchez. To the socialists, in turn, he has asked them to "comply" with Catalonia without fear of the right and the extreme right.

On the possibility that JxCat will return to the Government of the Generalitat, in the event that there is a well-established strategic agreement between the two ex-partners, the president has asked "not to speculate", after some republican leaders have indicated in recent days that that option is not ruled out. Aragonès also did not want to be clear about the options of incorporating Junts to the dialogue table with the central government despite not being in the Government. In order not to go into details, the president has shielded himself from the fact that addressing these issues now may affect subsequent agreements when there are still no formal working groups.

Regarding the steps to be taken, the president has indicated that the negotiations will be long and has once again urged the socialist candidate to be the first to move. "It is up to whoever wants to be president to move", considered Aragonès, who has indicated that there have been contacts with the different actors after the vote on 23-J, but without giving any details of his conversations with both Junts and the Socialists.

With regard to the regional financing model, which has expired a few years ago and which now the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, considers to be urgently resolved, Aragonès pointed out that the intention of the Catalan Executive is to negotiate to reduce the fiscal deficit in Catalonia and has stated that its intention is not to go hand in hand with other communities. "We are not going to negotiate a new financing model with other autonomous communities. We will defend the reduction of our country's fiscal deficit", pointed out the president, who has also asked the minister for specifics.

"Do not speculate with the model, if you have a proposal, say so. We will not position ourselves on something that we do not know and do not know," Aragonès stated in response to Montero. "In any scenario, we will position ourselves so that Catalonia obtains the maximum resources", he concluded.
