In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we witness a whole night show in the fresh air, the rain of Aquarid stars reflected in the Sau reservoir, in the Osona region.
Around these dates, the Aquarids are reaching their maximum activity. These meteors come from comet 96P/Machholz, discovered by amateur astronomer Donald Machholz on May 12, 1986.
Every year, until August 23, this meteor shower floods the night sky. During this summer season, the Earth's orbit coincides with the remains of stellar dust and rocks left behind by comet 96P/Machholz.
The Aquarid shower is visible from the night of July 12, although it is expected to reach its maximum activity during July 30 and 31.
The phenomenon can be observed with the naked eye in optimal weather conditions and, at its peak, it is possible to see up to 25 meteors per hour.
