'Amore': the promise between life and sleep is a fado

The multidisciplinary show Amore, created by the Pippo Delbono company and co-produced by the Emilia Romagna Teatro ERT and the Teatro Nazionale (Italy); premieres in Spain with his participation in the Temporada Alta 2022 festival. Thus, with the convergence of dance, song, music and a very suggestive set design, the Italian artist intends to take the public on a poetic journey in search of feeling most precious: love. The Municipal Theater of Girona will host this proposal on Saturday, November 5.

“Love is a very complex word. It is full of joy, pain… It is a song between life and death, very autobiographical”, explained the Italian artist Pippo Delbono. After the impact of his show La gioia, with which it premiered in Temporada Alta 2020; Delbono focuses again on a great word: love. With this vocation, the creator has teamed up with Portuguese musicians to imbue his show with the melancholy of fado.

The traditional Portuguese song talks about the pain, the sadness, the frustration of life; but in a vital sense. "I love life, very much," Delbono stressed. But he has also clarified that to sincerely explore this feeling with so many layers, it is necessary to do it from the wound, from a place of vulnerability.

For this reason, the Italian has added Pedro Jóia and various Portuguese composers to his company. "They have been involved with a lot of vocation and commitment to the project. In short, with a lot of love", Delbono has echoed.

Thus, the Italian artist proposes an experience of external exploration, with immersive contact with the Portuguese culture; and also internal, with the recognition of the different elements that end up configuring the great conglomerate of love. Delbono thus highlights the relevance of this show in the current context, where many people still carry the emotional and relational fragmentation that the pandemic caused.

Amore, the new show by the Pippo Delbono company opens in Spain as part of the Temporada Alta festival programme. This poetic and sensory journey can be seen at the Teatre Municipal de Girona this Saturday, November 5.
