The PP of Madrid is not going to change its mind and will not place the LGTBI flag in the Palacio de Cibeles in a decision that the municipal corporation tries to hide by illuminating both the facade of the City Hall and the Cibeles fountain with the colors of the rainbow.
This was confirmed this Tuesday by the new delegate for Social Policies, Family and Equality, José Fernández, upon his arrival at the Thyssen Museum, where the presentation of the new edition of the LGTBI Pride (MADO) of the capital took place, evidencing that Cs was the only party of the three right-wingers uncomfortable with Vox's demand at the beginning of the last legislature.
"There will be a building illuminated with the rainbow flag as well as the Cibeles fountain," the mayor stated during his speech in the absence of Almeida, who has alleged scheduling problems. "Nothing better than illuminating everyone's building with the colors of the flag and the fountain of the goddess of Cibeles", Fernández added for whom, the absence of the banner does not make it impossible for "Pride to be" one of the symbols of the city".
The celebration of Pride in the capital has been surrounded by controversy in recent editions after the mayor's decision to rely on a ruling handed down by the Supreme Court (TS) in 2020 in which it is argued that "another flag cannot be waved other than the official ones."
For his part, both the spokesman for the Más Madrid Municipal Group, Eduardo Rubiño, and the Socialist Municipal Group, Reyes Maroto, regretted that the flag was not installed and demanded that it be done.
