Academics at the cutting edge of legal innovation

The recent ruling of the Constitutional Court that declares several points of Royal Decree-Law 3/2016 unconstitutional includes some conclusions from an investigation carried out at the Faculty of Law of the International University of Catalonia (UIC Barcelona). The work, which has laid the argumentative foundations now accepted by the Constitutional Court, has been directed by Dr. Jordi de Juan, professor of Tax Law and Partner of the Tax Area at the Crowe Spain Firm. Facts like this show that today law schools are no longer just centers where laws are learned, but where knowledge is generated that transforms society for the future.

Another example of this commitment to the transfer of knowledge to society is the writing and open publication of three Guides and Codes on risk management in situations of scientific uncertainty aimed at public administration, companies and scientific advisory committees working in this area. These documents contribute to decision-making in situations of uncertainty regarding public health and environmental protection. These works are the result of an interdisciplinary research project funded by the BBVA Foundation and directed by Dr. Juan José Guardia, associate professor of Administrative Law at UIC Barcelona.

At UIC Barcelona, jurists are trained with a global perspective, not just law graduates. "Our teaching staff - explains the dean, Dr. María Fernández Arrojo - is made up of qualified professionals in all areas of Law, who train the student to value their talent in professional practice, or through the development of a research career. within the University. All of them carry out their activity in accordance with the Faculty's strategy, characterized by innovation, transversality and a practical view towards the transfer of legal knowledge to society."

In addition to excellent teachers and researchers, the Faculty also has prestigious jurists in its academic faculty who teach classes based on real cases, because they are in direct contact with the professional world through their work in offices, companies or courts, among others. others. “This combination of teachers creates a balance that allows us to offer our students specialized and quality theoretical and practical training to prepare the lawyers of tomorrow,” says the dean.

Law faculties such as UIC Barcelona combine all these aspects - teaching, research and knowledge transfer - in such a way that the student is prepared to be a professional for the future to come, with a high level of focus, thanks to the itineraries. of internationalization and specialization.

The international seal of the Faculty offers students the possibility of complementing their undergraduate studies at UIC Barcelona with an Erasmus semester abroad or with the Summer School at the Faculty of Law of the University of California, Berkeley. Graduates will also be able to obtain a degree in Paralegal Studies at the University of California (UCLA) (a specialization program equivalent to a postgraduate degree) that gives access to law firms in the United States. Those who have completed the Degree or completed the Master's Degree in Law and Procurement may have access to the practice of law in the United States thanks to agreements with St. John's University and Pace University, which have various LLM programs that prepare the student for the BAR exam from the New York Bar Association.

A constantly changing society needs professionals who are up to date with their knowledge and develop their professional skills. The UIC Barcelona Faculty of Law offers to complete your academic training with sessions, forums and courses organized by the university led by professionals, who develop the personal skills and digital competencies that are essential in the professional world today.

It is also committed to professional training through the Master's Degree in Law and Prosecution and is committed to continuing to accompany lawyers through its lifelong learning programs: masters and specialization courses such as the Master of Permanent Training in Planning and Legal-Fiscal Advice , Master's Degree in Legal, Forensic and Criminological Psychopathology, Postgraduate in Compliance and Cybersecurity, Postgraduate in Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions, Postgraduate in Tax Consulting, Restructuring Course and Tax Specialization Course.

The Faculty's facilities have a courtroom equipped with cutting-edge technology that faithfully reproduces the environment of a real court, allowing you to participate in trial simulations and develop oral argument skills, receiving feedback from legal professionals.
