A sinkhole in Aranjuez forces 24 families to evacuate their homes until the land is inspected

A sinkhole on Cáceres Street in the Madrid municipality of Aranjuez has caused 24 families to have had to abandon their homes due to the risk of collapse. It is a 25 meter hole, which could expand and endanger the foundations of the nearby property. Cracks are already visible in some parts of the property, such as the facade and garages.

The hole appeared at the end of November. The social services of the Aranjuez City Council and the local Police notified each home of the existing risks, through a document that they had to sign before leaving.

These are numbers 2 and 4 on Cáceres Street. The building consists of a ground floor with two access portals, parking spaces, storage rooms and three floors with eight homes each.

Apparently, in addition to the cracks, the foundation of the property may suffer from a lack of support on the ground, which could cause it to not maintain its stability. The property was built by the real estate developer Fadesa and the casino management group Comar.

Hence, the Aranjuez council "cannot guarantee the safety and stability of the buildings until it carries out a detailed study of the causes of the collapse of the land, which will require the performance of geological and pathological tests." Hence, a preventive eviction has been ordered to avoid an accident with serious consequences for the residents of said apartments.
