A retiree to take up arms

I am dazzled by the figure of Pompeyo González, a resident of Miranda de Ebro, 74 years old and retired after a long career as an undertaker, who has just been released by a judge.

Was Pompeyo González bored? Is he a lone wolf or a Spaniard for whom retirement has been fatal? Pompeyo allegedly sent six letters with home-made pyrotechnic material – blessed internet, which opens educational horizons! – to relevant people and companies, so that the Government of Spain withdraws support for Ukraine.

At first glance, we are looking at a pro-Russian retiree – we do not know if he is a Bolshevik or a Menshevik – whose radicalization is being studied by the National Police, while the judge has just released him on provisional release since he has no criminal record and is of a certain age, although he is 74 today is the 25 of yesterday, because you have to have enthusiasm, idealism and energy to send a pyrotechnic letter to Moncloa or the Ukrainian embassy.

The news gives food for thought about whether people are ready for retirement. As an undertaker, Pompeyo González was an ax and a beautiful person, according to his colleagues, and today he has reinvented himself as an alleged terrorist. The investigation does not rule out clues, so that we are still facing one of those seniors who want to rebuild his life and cannot think of any other option than to have a Russian girlfriend, whom he perhaps wanted to impress with such shipments. Where a Spaniard does not arrive with his hand or the tip of his sword, he arrives with fireworks!

I do not rule out being a talkative retiree, although I do not see myself changing the world or making homemade firecrackers because a chemical tube exploded in my childhood, one of those games that the Kings brought. Posts to entertain themselves, I prefer the Beatriz Flamini school, the 50-year-old adventurer who has spent 492 days in a cave and I say that she has left the family alone for a while. What an occurrence!

And finally: couldn't the council of ministers pardon Pompeyo González and sign him up for a salsa or first aid course for grandchildren who don't stop?
