A massive fight forces the closure and evacuation of Calle del Pecado in Sitges

A massive fight has forced this past dawn to close the entertainment venues and to vacate Primer de Maig street in Sitges, popularly known as Sin street. Apparently, it all started with a fight between a local doorman and an outside person, belonging to a conflictive family clan residing in the Garraf region. This initial fight, during which the security guard of an establishment was attacked, led to a dispute between two groups.

Some 40 members of the family clan ended up meeting with their vehicles, many of whom brandished bottles, glasses, sticks, chairs and other objects that they used as throwing weapons. Both the Local Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra tried to contain the massive fight, although it has been "very complicated", according to sources close to the police force. The same sources have added that the physical integrity of the agents has been endangered "to avoid significant injuries." An agent of the Local Police of this tourist town of Garraf has ended up being injured. He has been transferred to the Sant Antoni Abat Hospital in Vilanova i la Geltrú, where stitches have been applied to his face after being attacked with a bottle.

Given the seriousness of the tumultuous fight on Primer de Maig street, the Mossos d'Esquadra ended up activating a public order operation with two patrols that joined four others from this police force. When 9 minutes passed after 2 in the morning at the Local Police station, the first notice about the fight was received. From this body, the Mossos d'Esquadra were alerted, and agents from both police forces went to the scene to act jointly. After providing the description of one of the alleged attackers, the members of the family clan were located just in front of the local Sports Bar, located at the confluence of Passeig de la Ribera with Bassa Rodona street. And that's when they tried to contain the fight. At 2:58 in the morning, the managers of the Primer de Maig premises were informed that they had to close the establishments, and the street was evacuated to avoid greater evils.

The Councilor for Governance of the Sitges City Council, David Martínez, told this newspaper that "we strongly condemn and reject the events of last night". He has added that “situations like those of last morning between two people cannot lead to a fight with more people. From the City Council we work so that events like these do not occur again ”. Likewise, David Martínez wanted to thank "enormously" the work of the Local Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra, as well as "the exemplary behavior of the rest of the people who were enjoying a night out and came across this unpleasant incident." There is an ongoing investigation, but at the moment there are no detainees.
