A former PP deputy, sentenced to one year in prison for distributing child pornography

A former PP deputy in Congress, Juan Carlos Grau from Menorca, has accepted a one-year prison sentence for the crime of distributing thousands of videos and images of pornographic content in which the protagonists were minors, some of them with the presence of adults, according to the Menorca newspaper. Grau was a deputy between 2008 and 2016.

Grau has admitted before the judge that he belonged to an instant messaging group that distributed the images through an application that he had installed on his mobile phone. Following an investigation, the police went to his home in May 2022. In this search, it was discovered that the accused had in his possession a total of 173,804 photographs and 17,246 pornographic videos, most of them with the presence of minors, some of very young age.

The crime was detected as a result of an investigation opened in the United States that branched out to various countries and ended, among other places, in Ciutadella, (Menorca) where the accused resides. The agents discovered that he had an instant messaging application installed on his mobile phone that he used specifically to receive and share files with minors.

The investigation into this case began a couple of years ago, but it has not emerged until the time of the trial. Juan Carlos Grau has been convicted of obtaining and sharing pornographic images and videos in which minors appeared, some between the ages of 10 and 13.

The Menorcan politician has accepted the sentence imposed on him by a Maó Court after an investigation that began almost a year ago, according to the Menorca newspaper. The former deputy has also been sentenced to disqualification from holding any job that involves contact with minors,

Grau was a PP deputy in Congress between 2008 and 2016. Among other positions, he was rapporteur for the Volunteer Law. The PP of Menorca has sent a statement in which it shows its rejection and condemns the attitude of the former deputy and specifies that he is no longer a member of the party nor does he hold organic or institutional positions. "We express our solidarity with the victims and express our absolute rejection of any act that threatens the integrity of minors," assures the leadership of the popular.
