A driver gets out of the car and breaks a radar with a hammer in Galicia

Speed behind the wheel is one of the main causes of mortality on Spanish roads. Exceeding the permitted limits not only multiplies the chances of suffering traffic accidents, but it is also one of the main infractions hunted by the radars that control the country's road network. It is these devices that sometimes drive some drivers crazy when they are hunted.

This is the case of a Galician citizen, who, in the early hours of this Friday, got out of his vehicle at the height of the radar in the town of Conxo to break the cinemometer, located on the SC-20, with a hammer.

The mayor of Santiago himself has confirmed the event – which took place at 2:00 a.m. – to El Correo Gallego. As he has recounted, the alleged perpetrator of the events is a man from O Milladoiro who has already been identified. The mayor Xosé Sánchez Bugallo specified that the damage affected the exterior glass, with which, he added, the radar is still operational.

This device came into operation in 2020 and since then it has been one of the most penalized in the city: in the first three months it generated more than 17,000 fines, more than half of those that were registered in the Santiago City Council for issues of traffic in a whole year.
