A couple arrested for growing 575 marijuana plants in Cabanillas de la Sierra

The Civil Guard has arrested a 65-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman as allegedly responsible for a plantation of more than 500 marijuana plants in their chalet, located in Cabanillas de la Sierra.

During the search of the home, more than 20 kilos of buds and another 18 kilos of chopped marijuana were also seized, the Madrid Command of the armed institute reported.

The investigation of what was called Operation Daisy began last January when the agents learned that a home in the aforementioned town gave off a strong smell of marijuana and emitted a constant sound that seemed to come from heating motors.

All of this made them suspect that the home housed a marijuana plantation, something they confirmed after carrying out different investigations.

Once an entry and search order was obtained from the corresponding investigating court, the agents inspected the home and found the plantation.

They found 575 cannabis plants, most stored on the ground floor of the chalet, 20.6 kilos of buds and 18.2 kilos of chopped marijuana.

They also seized 56,238 euros and 3,680 pounds sterling in cash, two vehicles, three laptops, seven mobile phones, a knife and a brass knuckle.

The two residents of the home, Spaniards, were arrested and the judicial authority ordered them to be placed in provisional prison as supposedly responsible for crimes against public health and electricity fraud.
