The RetroBarcelona fair returns to its origins to celebrate the classic video game

Long live tube TVs. This could be one of the slogans of RetroBarcelona, the classic video game fair that returns this weekend after four years of absence. Today and tomorrow, from ten in the morning to eight in the afternoon, the eighth edition of this fair is open to all the public and in which you can play arcade machines at the La Farga de l'Hospitalet venue. like knowing the history of the iconic DOOM.

After four years of absence, and the fact that in recent editions it has been integrated into other video game events, RetroBarcelona returns to its origins with an exclusive and solo fair. It does so with 5,000 square meters in which more than 250 computers and consoles are grouped, an exhibition of classic systems, sales displays and a conference area.

"The informative part of the fair has been revitalized this year, especially thanks to the fact that we wanted to have the participation of more women, something that is not the most common in this type of event," says the organizer of the event Carles Garcia, in Statements to the iCat Digital Generation program.

The effort of its organizers when it comes to proposing a more diverse event also makes reference to the issue of age. "A fair like this does not have to be for a specific generation, we have to try to take care of future generations," says Garcia.

Among the activities scheduled for this edition is the aforementioned conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the classic DOOM, by Rafa Laguna and Gina Zero; a talk dedicated to “The world of Retro today”, in which content creators from this field such as Koyuki, Arlan, Tuberviejuner or Raquel Cervantes will participate, or a video game musical trivial by the pianist Victormame. All this without forgetting the video game tournaments, in this case as classic as Tetris, Mario Kart or Soul Calibur.

One more year, RetroBarcelona repeats its solidarity initiative “Videogames for food”, aimed at collecting imperishable food in exchange for retro videogames and which, in previous editions, managed to collect six tons of food. The kilos of food collected are donated to the Food Bank and the objective for this new edition of the event is to achieve a new record.

The entrance to RetroBarcelona is priced at 14 euros and offers access to a day of the fair.
