Google launches a function to learn English for free from your mobile search engine

Google wants its users to learn English. The technology giant will launch a new function from the mobile search engine, which will allow you to practice and improve language skills through short sessions (between 3 and 5 minutes). This is a system similar to that used by Duolingo, a tool intended for free language learning and with which, from now on, it will compete.

"Google Search is already a valuable tool for language learners, providing translations, definitions, and other resources to improve vocabulary. Now, learners who translate to or from English on their Android phones will find a new search experience. English-speaking practice with personalized feedback," the company explains on its blog.

Its implementation will be progressive. According to the technology company, in the coming days this option will be available for Android users in Argentina, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico and Venezuela. Later, this interactive practice will expand to other countries, although the date is not specified.

Users can take advantage of any time of the day to learn English. Google has designed 3 to 5 minute practice sessions, where students receive personalized feedback and are also given the option to sign up to receive daily reminders to continue practicing anywhere, as long as they have an Android phone.

One of the most notable learning options is oral practice, which has a color code to identify whether we have pronounced the sentence correctly or not. "The system provides semantic feedback, indicating whether your answer was relevant to the question and if it can be understood by an interlocutor," they say.

Google has surrounded itself with specialists for its implementation and operation. "We have partnered with linguists, teachers and ESL/EFL pedagogical experts to create an oral practice experience that is effective and motivating," explains the technology company, highlighting that "students practice vocabulary in authentic contexts and the material is repeated in dynamic intervals to increase retention.
